Exploring the Epistle of James

EXPLORING THE EPISTLE OF JAMES
The message, context, and connections of James in the Story of Scripture

Our one-day intensives with The Way College are designed to make meaningful, theological learning accessible and attainable for the wider church community. If you are interested in The Way College or engaging in theological studies, this is an opportunity to go deeper in your learning, while just getting a taste of what being a full-time student could be like.

Through four one-hour lectures, Exploring the Epistle of James, invites students into a rich study of one of the New Testament’s most practical and thought-provoking letters. Join Hakeem as he examines who James was, the context in which he wrote, and the key themes of his message.

This one-day intensive will explore:

  1. Who was James? Context, Themes, and the Letter’s Purpose

  2. Echoes of Jesus: How James Carries Forward the Jesus Tradition

  3. James Among the Letters: His Voice in the New Testament Choir

  4. Rooted in the Story of Scripture: James and the Old Testament Witnesses

You will explore how James draws deeply from the teachings of Jesus, especially the Sermon on the Mount, to shape his message and consider James’ place within the broader New Testament, particularly among the general epistles. Finally, you’ll reflect on how James uses Old Testament figures like Job, Elijah, Abraham, and Rahab to ground his call to a real living faith.
