Job Description

This role exists to facilitate excellent kids' ministry at The Way North Van Site, lead and care for the kids volunteer team, and oversee effective follow-up and connection for families in our community.

This role is primarily operational and pastoral — overseeing the weekly implementation of Kids Ministry, coordinating volunteers and systems, and helping execute ministry initiatives and events. This role also provides leadership and coordination for Kids Camp and special events in North Vancouver.

Location: The Way Church North Vancouver and Central Site

Salary: $25,000 per year (.5 FTE of $50,000 per year)

Term: September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027

Qualifications

  • Previous experience leading children's ministry programs and volunteers.

  • Passionate about children, families, and the spiritual formation of the next generation. 

  • Self-motivated and proactive.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Able to manage the demands of working every Sunday while maintaining an appropriate rhythm of rest and renewal.

  • Confident and comfortable with kids; able to self-regulate and demonstrate positive behaviour management strategies.

  • Confident and comfortable communicating with parents with clarity and kindness.

  • Comfortable with stage presence and forward-facing leadership.

  • Able to confidently lead and communicate during Kids Sunday services and church-wide gatherings.

Responsibilities

The role consists of four main components

1. Sundays (approximately 7 hours)

  • Lead the Kids Volunteer Team at North Van.

  • Act as manager to the Nursery Oversight staff or volunteer member (if applicable).

  • Prepare supplies for volunteers.

  • Lead volunteers in setup and pack-down.

  • Oversee the execution of the kids' program, ensuring alignment with the pre-planned flow for that Sunday.

  • Ensure Safeguarding Policy is implemented. 

  • Create a fun and welcoming environment for families and children.

  • Exemplify warmth and leadership to volunteers, ensuring the vision and values are embodied on a consistent basis.

  • Provide pastoral care for children and families.

  • Check in regularly with the Nursery Oversight staff or volunteer member to ensure a clean, hospitable, and safe space for children.

  • Participate in Welcome to Church Lunches.

  • Connect and follow up weekly with new families.

2. Team (approximately 5 hours midweek)

  • Create monthly Sunday schedules well in advance.

  • Clearly communicate with volunteer teams on a weekly basis.

  • Actively and regularly recruit and onboard new volunteers.

  • Pray for and provide care to volunteers as needed.

  • Ensure supplies, snacks, and toys are stocked and supplied by taking regular inventory and ordering within the scope of ministry budget & vision.

  • Review the general plan for the upcoming Sunday and make necessary adjustments for implementation at the North Van Site.

  • Collaborate with the larger Kids Ministry Team across all sites.

3. Development (approximately 4 hours per week)

  • Participate weekly in the Tuesday morning staff meeting.

  • Participate weekly in Kids Team Meetings.

  • Meet regularly with manager for coaching and alignment.

  • Attend weekly North Van Site meetings and report to the North Van Site Pastor/Team.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the ministry and implement meaningful changes.

4. Events & Kids Camp (seasonal workload variations apply)

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of special events including: Family Sundays, parent events, childcare at church events and family gatherings and ministry initiatives

  • Coordinate operational leadership for Kids Camp, including volunteer coordination, logistics, communication, and execution.
