Gathering

From the earliest days of the Church, followers of Jesus have gathered together to worship, pray, hear God’s Word, celebrate communion, and encourage one another.

These shared rhythms continue to shape us as God’s people and remind us that faith is something we live together. This pathway highlights the importance of gathering with the Church through Sunday worship, small groups, corporate prayer, and other shared rhythms of our community.

We want to highlight stories from people whose lives have been deeply shaped through faithfully gathering with God’s people over time. While these gatherings are not the whole of the Christian life, they are an essential foundation that encourages and equips us to follow Jesus throughout the rest of the week. Once again, our hope is that these stories and practices help you take one faithful step deeper into Christian community and the life of the Church. Whether you’re wondering where to begin or longing to go deeper, we hope these resources help you discover fresh ways of meeting with God. Don’t feel like you need to try everything. Simply begin somewhere. Our hope is that these stories and practices help you take one faithful step deeper into a life of prayer.

This past year has been one of the most challenging seasons of my life, and being part of The Way church community has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve experienced a depth of care not only from leadership, but from so many people in the congregation who have offered friendship, prayer, wise counsel, and practical support. This is a community of people who are truly seeking to become like Jesus, exemplified by the way they walk alongside one another with honesty, grace, compassion, and care. I’m deeply grateful for the way this community has supported me and helped me continue to heal, learn, and trust God in the midst of uncertainty.

— David
“God loves to do more than you expect!  Opening my home to host a Small Group was both a personal challenge and an answer to a prayer.  A couple of years back, as I paid off my mortgage on a tiny condo, I was filled with gratitude and, in prayer, I asked God how I could serve him going forward in this season of my life.  I did not think He would go straight for the uncomfortable, unhealed places in my heart and ask me to offer hospitality; to invite people into my home, my sanctuary, my private space.  But, over time, and over my objections and attempts to squirm out of it, it became clear that is exactly what He wanted from me.  In answer to my prayers, He not only gave me an opportunity to serve him, but he also silenced some old, dysfunctional, family voices; He healed my heart and freed me from feelings of inadequacy and judgment from visitors. I write this now with a smile on my face, feeling joyful, and silly that I had those fears in the first place.  But I did, they were real, and I could not get rid of them on my own, until I prayed and He used my prayer to shine the light of Jesus’ love and his Mercy and Grace all over me and my home.  I am more grateful than ever, happy to host a Small Group this coming fall and I continue to praise him daily! I can actually imagine him laughing and shaking his head at me …. in delight.”
