Job Description
The Communications Manager will project manage the creative staff team and cultivate creative volunteer teams, developing communication strategies & overseeing communication channels. A significant part of the role will be devoted to managing communications & media team projects: establishing timelines & strategy, coordinating with ministries & providing leadership to the team. The Communications Manager also will directly manage social media, email & web channels, as well as coordinate photography capture for church. We believe the right communication helps underscore & reinforce ministries across The Way Church. In all they do, the Communications Manager will work towards the following:
Telling the story of what God is doing in & through The Way Church
Contributing to the discipleship & formation of our church across digital channels
Taking a values-based approach to inviting our congregation into the life of the church by participating in gatherings & ministry activity
Details
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hrs/week)
Location: The Way Ministry Centre (101-1155 Thurlow St, Vancouver, BC) & sites
Salary: $50,000
Responsibilities
Communication Project Management & Strategy
Project manage & collaborate with creative staff team members
Cultivate & provide leadership to creative volunteer teams (photography, video production, graphic design, social media, etc.)
Develop communication strategies & timelines to support church ministries & gatherings, leveraging social, email, web & in-person channels
Develop marketing strategies & campaigns for specific initiatives
Social Media
Manage & administrate for Instagram, Facebook & other social channels
Create content for social platforms
Adapt existing content for social platforms (sermon clips, announcement graphics, etc.)
Email
Assemble weekly email newsletter
Coordinate monthly pastoral word email
Develop one-off email campaigns for special events or initiatives
Website
Maintain website content, keeping pages up to date as information changes (service times, copy, staff page, teaching content, etc.)
Collaborate with creative team to roll out new pages
Manage events
Content Capture
Capture & edit photo/video for services, events & ministry gatherings
Cultivate and lead team of volunteer content creators
Qualifications
Minimum of two years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a church or non-profit setting
Deep familiarity with church ministry & church communications, preferably stemming from a ministry role
Strong team & leadership skills: the ability to lead teams, collaborate well with others & cultivate healthy culture among team members & volunteers
Proficiency in social media management, content creation & website management
Familiarity with graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma)
Strong proficiency in photo capture & editing; experience with video capture & editing
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
A heart for ministry & alignment with The Way Church’s mission & values
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is highly preferred but not required
